Description

A grab-bag of books featuring variously neurodivergent characters. Some of these characters are explicitly labelled or reference diagnoses within their stories, but the majorities are merely written with certain traits and personalities in mind. The majority of characters included in this bundle have autistic and/or ADHD traits; several show traits associated with PTSD and anxiety responses; several are in active addiction or are recovering addicts; and a few more show traits associated with other personality disorders, such as psychopathic traits or borderline.

Heart of Stone – Usually £3.99 – Fantasy Romance Novel, M/M, 90k. The vampire MC is ADHD, swapping between hyperfixations as the years go by, struggling to make and maintain friendships and struggles with RSD, and his new human secretary is autistic, naturally quite shy and reserved, with a lot of difficulty understanding other people’s motivations.

More Than Coffee – Usually 99p – Erotic Romance novella, M/M, 13k. Autism 4 autism in this one. Main character is a big quiet man who’s generally slow to react or show emotion; Love interest is a very particular, extremely focused, highly literal accountant.

Powder and Feathers – Usually £4.99 – Dark Fantasy Romance Epic Novel, M/M, 250k. POV split between three MCs: the two in the romance, and one MC’s brother. Primary MC, Jean-Pierre has Borderline Personality Disorder, especially struggling with emotional disregulation, obsessive tendencies, and severe rejection-sensitive dysphoria, as well as PTSD. He’s also very high-powered, competent, and a workaholic. The other MC, Aimé, is an alcoholic and a depressive disorder. Several other characters are autistic, and two are dyslexic.

A Night on the Mountain – Usually 99p – Fantasy short, 10k. Set during the 1950s, best read after reading Powder and Feathers. Jean-Pierre Delacroix is read as emotionally unstable by other characters, and has Borderline Personality Disorder and PTSD. Asmodeus is reserved and somewhat distanced from his emotions, so he’s often read as autistic.

Paper Houses – Usually 99p – Romance short, M/M, 7k. Autism 4 Autism. Main character is very shy and not outwardly emotional, has difficulties reading social cues; love interest is quiet and severe, flat affect, very unwavering in his sense of justice, with difficulty regulating some of his feelings.

Archival Management – Usually 99p – Erotic Fantasy novella, M/M, 10k. MC is an addict, especially ketamine and nicotine, actively enrolled in Narcotics Anonymous; addiction is to medicate unlabelled anxiety, post-trauma, and obsessive tendencies. Apart from emotional dysregulation and self-esteem issues, MC has some body dysmorphia from having been a gymnast as a child and teen.

Like A Thief and an Assassin – Usually 99p – Romance short, M/M, 7k. MC is very ADHD-autistic, is quite socially awkward and overly blunt, fast-talking, with difficulties moderating tone and judging appropriateness on top of being hyper-competent in his areas of study. He also has some sensory issues. His love interest is an older, very particular autistic type who is more rigid, but shows more of his own more playful traits in their shared dynamic.

Sweet On – Usually 99p – Romance short, M/M, 5k. Autism 4 autism, both characters explicitly discuss their respective diagnoses. MC is very ADHD-autistic, obsessive, very high-energy and highly and openly emotional; LI is a dryer, more reserved, flat affect autistic, also obsessive.

Gellert’s New Job – Usually 99p – Dark Fantasy & Crime Novella, M/M, 21k. MC, Osgodby, is diagnosed autistic, and is a victim of ABA therapy, with implications of PTSD related to both the ABA and being sexually abused by a speech therapist. MC is flat affect, severe and brisk, and was non-verbal as a child; he has significant sensory issues and is near-constantly overstimulated, but has been conditioned not to show his response. The other MC, Pike, also has sensory processing issues and is blunt and literal, with Osgodby implying that he reads as being autistic and/or having similar traumatic history.

Daddy’s Boy – Usually 99p – Dark Fantasy & Crime Novella, Gen, 23k. MC has a severe anxiety disorder and PTSD, as well as scarring and some lingering pain, as a result of a traumatic car crash as a child.

Deep Breath – Usually 99p – Romance short, M/M, 7k. Love interest has severe PTSD, mild psychotic symptoms and obvious disconnect from reality, obsessive tendencies, difficulties processing many social cues, etc. He heavily self-medicates with alcohol and a variety of other substances, and is in active addiction.

Youth Inquisitive – Usually 99p – Fantasy short, Gen, 6k. MC is very flat-affect, cannot moderate tone, refuses to engage in lies or pleasantries, and is obsessive. The story is concerned with his family’s struggle to accommodate his severe personality aspects whilst not understanding them as he grows up.

Gerald Poole and the Pirates – Usually £1.99 – Period Romance, M/M/M, 40k. The two POV MCs are very ADHD and autistic respectively, and are paralleled to another pair of characters who share similar personality traits. The autistic MC struggles with his own emotions and struggles with alexithymia, navigating social rules, and with sudden changes; the ADHD MC is very rejection sensitive but keenly interested in everything, struggles with focus and navigating some social cues. His parallel is particularly portrayed as having learned to lean into the value of his own skills and natural tendencies, with an implication that he can learn from him.

A Bite of Rope – Usually £1.49 – Period Erotica, M/M, 15k. MC has moderate post-traumatic responses, especially general anxiety, hypervigilance, alienation, and emotional disregulation; he is somewhere on the spectrum of psychopathy.
